2009-03-13 Virtual "NO to pollution flood!" exhibition on ACM screens
The photography exhibition “NO to pollution flood!” opens on March 19 in Vilnius, in the “Forum Cinemas Vingis” cinema centre. The event shall crown the national all-year-long photography contest inviting professional photographers and amateurs to take pictures of environment polluting cars and environment damaging human activities.
The photos of professional and amateur participants shall be available not only to the residents of Vilnius city, since virtual exhibition of the contest works shall be exposed to the end of March. Photos displayed on the outdoor screens shall be available to people living in the largest cities of Kaunas, Klaipeda, Panevezys and Siauliai, as well as in smaller ones like Alytus, Kedainiai, Marijampole, Telsiai and Utena.
”Swedbank lizingas” initiated the project in close cooperation with the Club of Lithuanian Press Photographers. According to Danguole Karloniene, the General Manageress, the contest has shown that Lithuanian people are not ignorant to pollution and ecology problems.
“Impressive photos disclose that irresponsible behaviour with your car may cost a lot: we will not have so many beautiful and clean areas of nature. That is why we must prevent the dreadful pollution flood today”, states Jonas Staselis.
The photography contest “Flood is OK after me?” was started to initiate public discussion on environment polluting cars, irresponsible behaviour with vehicles and promotion of more ecologic transport. Photos have been exposed in the www.tvanas2008.lt website designed for the project; visitors of the website could vote for the best photos and discuss ecology topics. 149 authors participated in the contest.
6 awards were given to winners of the “Flood is OK after me?” contest: 3 to professional photographers and 3 to amateurs. Winners of the 1st place were given LTL 2,000, winners of the 2nd place received LTL 1,500 and the winners of the 3rd place shall get LTL 1,000. The evaluation commission of the contest was led by Jonas Staselis, who is the President of the Club of Lithuanian Press Photographers.
